Qatar FA strikes marketing deal with AspireInfront

The Qatar Football Association has selected AspireInfront, the joint venture between Aspire Katara Investment and Infront Sports & Media, as its exclusive media and marketing partner for men's national team matches.

AspireInfront will sell sponsorship and international media rights to Qatar national team qualifiers and friendlies, with the deal beginning on 1st June.

It has secured non-exclusive media rights in Qatar and exclusive media rights elsewhere.

Qatar are scheduled to play China, Maldives, Bhutan and Hong Kong in the second qualification round of the 2018 Fifa World Cup. The competition will double as the preliminary round of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Interest in the Qatar national team is likely to be heightened in the coming years. The country will qualify automatically for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, as host nation. AspireInfront did not reveal how long its relationship with the Qatar FA will last.

Infront created the AspireInfront joint venture with Qatari firm Aspire Katara Investment in December 2013. The agency focuses on the Gulf region; its first project was organising a Bayern Munich winter training camp in Doha at the start of 2014, whilst more recently it marketed last December's Italian Super Cup match between Juventus and Napoli, which also took place in the Qatari capital.

"We thank the Qatar Football Association for its confidence in our ability to add value through dedicated marketing competence and sales strength," said Thomas Lessenich, AspireInfront's managing director.

Hamad Al-Kuwari, the director of marketing and communications at the Qatar Football Association, added: “Whilst strongly focused on the development of our national team, we are always looking for new ways to share the team’s progress and raise media awareness of Qatar’s great and challenging football journey.

"Partnering with AspireInfront gives us extra potential and leverages our efforts to market Qatar football and to help spread its popularity globally. At the same time, the company’s domestic roots mean that it understands our country’s sports culture and the significant role that the national football team holds.”

The Qatar national team's next scheduled games are in the UK, against Northern Ireland on 31st May and Scotland on 4th June. The trip will see the team base itself at the Football Association's St. George's Park training facility in Staffordshire.
